Angel

The Angel building is a conversion of a 1980s commercial building located at the intersection of Islington high street and Pentonville Road in London. The building was formally set back from the street, had poor landscaping and was very unpopular with locals.  AHMM’s brief was to provide a building that built on the ideas and experience of delivering a contemporary building combined with reinstating several traditional design principles which an evolution of office design had tended to move away from.  The team transformed the building into a Stirling prize nominee producing an identifiable high spec office development.

Being a speculative office development the building has a variety of versatile solutions built-in which are enhanced through a joint building approach, White Collar Factory, by the architect and developer that encompasses several design principles that aid in the convertibility and refitability of  their developments including a simple servicing strategy and an exposed large concrete structure providing high thermal mass.
